Fatal Shootings Triggered by Auto Part Mix-Up in Albuquerque, New Mexico

A dispute over a purchasing mistake spiraled beyond words, culminating in fatal shootings at the workplace

In Albuquerque, New Mexico, at an O’reilly’s Auto parts store,  ensued an argument with the O’reilly employee regarding an oil filter which was previously purchased from the store.  The oil filter was angrily returned by the customer who was accompanied by his father.

The 27 year old male customer, obviously furious with returning the part that he claimed was incorrect and caused his vehicle to loose oil after being put on by himself. The argument became much more volatile as the customer suddenly took two quarts of oil and agressively walked out of the store to his vehicle. The store manager and one other employee chased customer and demanded he return the unpaid products.

A fight ensued between the three men in the parking lot at which time now theft suspect entered his vehicle and retrieved a loaded pistol and shot both O’reilly employees which resulted in two deaths.

This matter is far fetched and definitely should NOT have occurred over a purchase dispute or the taking of unpaid products.

The unfortunate deaths of these two employees highlight “No Plan” and lack of a Workplace Violence Prevention Plan.

It is apparent these two employees who took this matter in their own hands had not chosen the best way to resolve this dispute.

Workplace Violence does not EXCLUDE angry and hostile customers or anyone who may enter the place of business. Many people are armed with deadly weapons, some licensed to carry a concealed weapon and many who feel the weapon is an offensive tool to conclude a dispute resulting from and argument or fight.

This event NOT considered a MASS Or ACTIVE shooter holds due diligence to having a Workplace Violence Prevention Plan in place. Using the best options in handling and solving preventable incidents is truly key for the safety and security of ALL.
