Authorities in Indianapolis, Indiana are investigating a horrific mass shooting that left two individuals dead and five others suffering from gunshot wounds. Among the injured, three are in critical condition, intensifying concerns over the brutal and chaotic nature of the incident.

Police report an apparent disturbance occurred prior to the shooting. It is unknown what the disturbance entailed and by whom but began inside the nightclub and later moved out to the parking lot.

Once again, we are confronted with the reality of mass shootings carried out by an unidentified active shooter who produced a weapon inside a public establishment and used deadly force without warning.

Fortunately, thanks to the dedication of our CA State Senate in acknowledging the frequency of these tragic incidents, lawmakers came together to draft and introduce State Bill 553 (SB553). This Bill was approved by Governor Newsom and enacted on July 1, 2024. Under a new mandate issued by the Governor, every public entity is now required to develop and implement a comprehensive Workplace Violence Prevention Plan (WVPP). This plan must include, but is not limited to, employee training focused on recognizing and responding to acts of violence in the workplace — including scenarios involving active shooters. Cal/OSHA has appointed responsibility to monitor each business, school, place of worship and all public business along with the ability to CITE these establishments for non-compliance. These citations may range up to $150,000.
