False Threat Forces School Closure and Evacuation
As we continue to battle acts of violence in our public places, schools, and workplaces, we remain vulnerable to unforeseen events that can create deeply alarming, frightening and dangerous situations.
The growing need for preparedness, strategic planning, and clear protocols in response to workplace violence is increasingly evident. California State Bill SB 553, signed into law by Governor Newsom, officially took effect on July 1, 2024, mandating compliance measures across workplaces to address such incidents.
Just recently here in southern California specifically in the San Marcos area it was reported that TWO ARMED GUNMEN were in the immediate area of their elementary school.
As result of this CALL to the school it was decided to close the grounds and evacuate the students. In a similar situation, the High School canceled their classes and in addition rescheduled a home football game.
The caller claimed to be inside the school and described seeing a man with a gun, followed by sounds of distress and gunfire. Apparently, the gun shots sounds were pre-recorded and therefore the call appears to be premeditated.
This CALL triggered and activated the deployment of over 150 Law Enforcement and First Responders. Although a HOAX, the response was handled as an emergency. This is an extremely costly maneuver to deploy these responders but does not supersede the value of life!!
To tie in the importance of the California Bill SB 553 and compliance thereof, Educational facilities and schools, houses of worship, open businesses and other public locations are mandated and required within the entire state of California by SB 553 to create a PRECAUTIONARY preparedness plan in the event of an emergency of this nature. It is imperative that these structured plans be in place, training implemented, records and reports of these matters be produced and kept available for review by Cal/OSHA who is now granted the authority by the Governor to conduct unannounced visits to ensure compliance.
