Armed Woman Fatally Shoots Another Inside Barbershop in Pittsburg

In early October, inside a public barbershop in the city of Pittsburgh, two women who were knew each other became involved in an ongoing dispute. As the argument escalated, both women sat beside one another, continuing their verbal exchange. One of them was receiving a haircut under the barber’s drape, while the other persistently provoked her, eventually urging her to step outside to settle the conflict physically.

Suddenly, and without prior indication, the woman receiving a haircut revealed she was armed. While still under the barber’s drape, she fired a handgun. The victim attempted to flee the barbershop but collapsed just outside, fatally succumbing to her injuries.

The owner of the shop stated as he was devastated and defended his place of business, “my place is not of this nature and was more for a location where people feel safe, vent, watch a sports game and feel good when you leave” We have nothing to do with this or any violence nor fatal situation.

As we daily and weekly become aware of and monitor nationwide of these near fatal to fatal occurrences in various public arenas; where ordinarily we want and wish to feel free of any danger especially FATAL. The climate has changed from what used to be a verbal altercation or argument has escalated into the sudden use of DEADLY WEAPONS by the means of GUNS. Our Democratic and “FREE WORLD” has been taken over by the disrespect of others and to a point of death no matter the size of the disagreement.

California Takes Proactive Measures to Prevent Workplace Violence

In California, we are shifting from a reactive approach to a proactive stance in addressing deadly incidents of workplace violence. To support this initiative, the California State Senate enacted Senate Bill 553 (SB 553), which was signed into law by Governor Gavin Newsom and officially took effect on July 1, 2024.

Under CA SB 553, all businesses, schools, places of worship, and public venues are now required to develop and implement a Workplace Violence Prevention Plan (WVPP). This mandate is designed to reduce injuries, fatalities, and ensure that all acts of violence occurring on the premises are properly reported and addressed.

The law empowers Cal/OSHA (California Division of Occupational Safety and Health) to enforce compliance. Employers who fail to meet the requirements of SB 553 may face citations of up to $150,000, depending on the severity and nature of the violation.

This legislation marks a significant step forward in protecting workers and the public, reinforcing California’s commitment to safety and accountability across all sectors.
